Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 Description

Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 is a type of Bitumen that obtains from blowing air to the Pure VB (vacuum bottom) Bitumen. Oxidized Bitumen has a lower penetration point and more softening point in comparison to VB. Based on its softening point and penetration points, it classifies into three types of low, medium and hard Oxidized Bitumen.

Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 is well known by other names also as Blown Bitumen, Hard Bitumen, Blown Asphalt, and Oxidized Asphalt.

Process of Production of Oxidized Bitumen by Air Blowing

Air blowing Bitumen is an extensively used process to upgrade and achieve specifications of final bitumen product. The air blowing process is accompanied by hardening of bitumen, with corresponding changes in chemical composition thereby yielding product having acceptable consistency and temperature susceptibility.

Process for the oxidation of bitumen, according to which a feed stream of bitumen and a stream of air or of another gaseous oxidizing agent are sent to a pressurized reactor, said reactor being a so-called rotary apparatus . The reaction between the gaseous oxidizing agent and the bitumen or other in the reactor is improved by generating turbulence by means of rotor-stator type mixing devices which produce shear forces making it possible to obtain a good dispersion of the ‘oxidizing agent.

The Oxidized Bitumen is defined as follows: “bitumen whose rheological properties have been substantially modified by reaction with air at elevated temperatures”. Preferably, the oxidized bitumen has a softening point (ball and ring temperature) comprised between 70° and 80° C. The oxidized bitumen having a penetration at 25° C. of 30 to 40 mm are preferentially used.

A specific advantage is that the oxidized bitumen is solid at ambient temperature. It is usually available in block or in bags and it can be handled very easily which is not the case of refining bitumen.

Bitumen Oxidized 75/35 Usage

Actually Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 has lots of application in different fields that some of them are mentioned as below:

Adhesive, Ink, Tire production. Chemical, fuel, paints, lacquers, varnishes, paper pulp board textile road construction, pavement crack repairmen, civil works, roofing, construction sealing and insulating buildings, adhesive, construction coating, insulating paving, roofing.

The oxidized bitumen as used in the present invention is defined as follows: “bitumen whose rheological properties have been substantially modified by reaction with air at elevated temperatures”. Preferably, the oxidized bitumen used in the present invention has a softening point (ball and ring temperature) comprised between 80° and 120° C. The oxidized bitumen having a penetration at 25° C. of 0 to 5 mm are preferentially used. Instead of oxidized bitumen, natural asphalt can also be used; natural asphalt is a hard bitumen found in natural deposits, containing mineral matter and which is virtually solid at 25° C. but which is a viscous fluid at 175° C. In this case the mineral fillers content of the composition will include the mineral fillers already present in the asphalt.

Safety Of Oxidized Bitumen 75/35

In possible leakage situations the bitumen volume is considerably smaller as the pumping of the bitumen to the homogenizer can be interrupted at once and the bitumen content of the homogenizer is considerably smaller than that of a conventional blowing reactor. Also the gas volume is considerably smaller of this reason which means a smaller explosion and fire risk

Furthermore, thanks to this, there is a smaller amount to be safety blown; a simpler and more reliable safety blowing system. – as the reactions are more effective, the oxygen content is considerably lower than in the oxidation air exhaust gases which improves the fire safety.

Packing Of Oxidized Bitumen 75/35

Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 the same as Oxidized Bitumen 75/25 can be packed in Poly Bag 25kg, & in Drum as client”s request. Although Craft Paper & Carton Box are the other packing of Oxidized Bitumen but for Oxidized Bitumen 75/35 will not be suggested because this grade has a low softening point & is softer than other grades.
